One of our new members, Carolyn, has written this most excellent piece about BuryLETS.

The answer is BuryLETS.
All the above have come into my life since Karen Cannard suggested I go along for a Christmas drink at a BuryLETS evening in the SoBar. It was such a nice evening that I found myself going along to a regular meeting too.

Bury LETS has a wide choice of goods that can be traded, here are a few examples of goods that have been traded at market places recentley (this is no where near a full list but should give a few ideas):

Vegetables
Herbs
Jams
Home cooked curry
Second hand (sorry, vintage) clothes
Books
Birthday cards
Craft items - such as fabric paints and papers
Un-used house hold items - for instance a brand new salad spinner
Handmade necklaces and earings
DVDs

The yearly subscription is £6 and 10 Abbots for individuals, or £10 and 10 Abbots for family / business accounts.

Members receive a Newsletter and Directory each month and a quarterly balance of their account.

There are opportunities to meet other Bury LETS members informally at regular social events and our monthly marketplace, where you can buy and sell using Abbots, or just come along for a drink and a chat.

Many new friendships begin with Bury LETS because it brings people together who might otherwise not have met.

The scheme is based around a directory where members advertise what they want and what they have to offer. Directory entries include the person's telephone number, so that other members can contact them directly. The Bury LETS Directory is updated every month, and members are free to change their entries at any time.

Some examples of services offered are: decorating, gardening, alternative therapies, pet/house/baby sitting, computer services/tuition, DIY and music lessons. Members also sell goods, many of which are home-made or home-grown.
