Bury LETS Newsletter, Sep 2008

Hello and welcome to Autumn,

We have had a damp summer so the leaves should be gorgeous this year. As summer draws to a close I look forward to crisp weather and snug jumpers. Did you notice the people who are now complaining about how much rain we had this summer are the same people who complained about how hot it was when we DID have summer weather? If they were in the garden of Eden they would say that the snake was a health hazard.
September Meeting

So on to BuryLETS and off my musings. We had a good turn out at the last meeting and I would like to thank everyone who came as I bought someone thing from most people who traded and now have a fridge stocked with various veggies. With the price of food going up it is a great opportunity to share spare produce for the gardeners amongst us AND even better for everyone who eats veggies and all the while trading abbots.

Noeleen writes: “At our September meeting members and guests traded organic fruit and vegetable, cards, clothes, furnishings, art materials and much more. Thanks to all who attended and traded. It was lovely to be back in the revamped Friends Meeting House and we will meet there again on Thursday November 13th at 7.30pm.

At our November meeting we are encouraging people to trade fruit and vegetables or festive items such as Christmas cards, preserves and handmade gifts. If you don't have any of these please bring along other items to trade.

Attending meetings is vital to keep our LETS group going. Your don't have to stay for the 2 hours you can just drop in and meet our members. Please lets have a bigger turnout for our Nov. meeting.”
Next Meeting

13th November 2008 starting at 7.30pm at the Quaker Meeting House.

I hope again to be able to trade for Veggies, jams and other foods and also Christmas presents....
New Quaker meeting house

The September market place was our first full meeting at the new sparkly Quaker Meeting House. I am sure that the modern glass lay out will provoke much discussion. The toilets and kitchen has been moved to left side of the building, the old kitchen's white MDF cupboards have been replaced by stainless cupboards which really remind me of the first Jurassic Park film. I am very tempted to wear a dinosaur costume to the November meeting and jump out at anyone entering the kitchen, however this might disturb the choir too much.
Green Fair

The Green Fair will aslo be taking place on the 22nd of November at the Corn Exchange from 10am to 4pm. If you would like to have a stall please contact John Matthissen (*email concealed*). We will not have a LETS stall this year but we will have our information leaflets on display.
Christmas Gathering

Well, the festive season is fast approaching, and planning for the LETS Christmas party has begun. Louise has been able to arrange a venue for us, the SO Bar on Hatter Street. The exact date is to be confirmed, but we'll keep you posted!
The Future

At the moment we have a really out of date directory and now would be an excellent time to start a fresh, to do this we need everyone to submit a new batch of directory entries or just let us know that you would like to keep your current ones. You can review your directory entries online if you wish, at http://www.burylets.org.uk/offers.php – you'll need your membership number. You can also send in your changes by email, to directory@burylets.org.uk. Of course, the directory change forms will be available at the marketplace.

We also need new members (to go for a Hallowe'en feel: “Ve need Fresh Blood mwaha!”).

New input to the committee is always welcome.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Daniel and Louise for the all their hard work this year, we would not have a LETS group without them.
Renewals

Lots of members subs are due and if these are not paid then we cannot continue to keep our LETS going for much longer. Please send your cheque payable to Bury LETS to Val Stobbart asap, thank you.
